Why are your donations so important to a rescue?
We know that you are constantly bombarded by numerous causes always asking you to donate towards their mission, so we would like to go a step further and present some information that will help you understand why donating towards a rescue, whether it be REAL Rottweiler Rescue or any other rescue, is so critical to our ability to save dogs.
🐾4 out of 5 dogs won’t find vet care or adoption in rural county shelters. (Gigis.org)
🐾Roughly 390,000 shelter dogs are euthanized PER YEAR (ASPCA)
🐾Rural counties rely much more heavily on transferring out dogs for live outcomes (Best friends Network)
🐾Texas is the highest state for number of animals killed in a given year, followed by Alabama and Oklahoma in the top 10 (Total.vet)
🐾Ohio is in the LOWEST 10% for percentage of number of animals euthanized per year (Total.vet)
🐾Other than Texas…California, Florida, and North Carolina are some of the other highest euthanasia states. (Total.vet)
Now that we have presented some national data, we would like to give you some data specific to REAL.
🐾REAL Rottweiler Rescue was founded in 2003 by a single couple who recognized the breed that they loved so dearly was in desperate need of help.
🐾On average over the last 5 years REAL has had an intake of 150 dogs per year.
🐾Using the average for the last 5 years and accounting for the significant growth we have experienced within the last 6 months alone, your continued support will help us save around 1,000 more deserving dogs, if not more!
🐾For the last few years the vetting budget alone has ranged from $50,000-$75,000, with the total operating budget nearing $100,000 every year.
🐾The adoption fees charged for all of the dogs adopted through the year has not historically covered even half of the vetting budget when we have been on the higher end.
🐾On average the routine vetting per dog that comes into the rescue is approximately $400 when done at a rescue friendly vetting clinic (includes spay/neuter, vaccinations, and microchip).
🐾To save an out of state dog without a foster stepping up the average cost to save each dog is approximately $1,000 (includes boarding for 2-4 weeks depending on transport, transport cost, and required vetting. Again this is all accounting for rescue friendly boarding and vetting.
As many have noticed we have made a push to pull numerous dogs from the south that DESPRATELY needs help. Without rescues stepping up these shelter dogs would not likely have the second chance at life they have been given.🥺 We are hoping that sometime in the future we can expand our efforts into the other states with super high rates of euthanasia to help the shelters and rescues located there that are so tired and spread thin already.💗 As we have said many times, without all of our loving generous supporters we could not continue of efforts and mission to save these sweet souls. No donation or support on social media goes unnoticed. We try to respond to as many comments as possible to let everyone know how appreciative and grateful we are to have such a wonderful community supporting the mission that is so dear to us. 💘Here at REAL all of us and our pups are so grateful for our volunteers, followers, supporters, and adopters! 🥰🐾♥️
